In 2017, after a two-year wait to complete on our dream home, we embarked on a massive renovation project bringing Victoria Road back to life. The house hadn’t been touched for over 40 years and was riddled with structural issues. It’s been a huge learning curve and we’ve shared our journey on Instagram with the amazing renovation community.
If you’re about to start a renovation or are currently knee deep in brick dust this is the place for you. We hope by sharing our journey we can help inspire and motivate you with yours.

Bathroom
It’s important to try and maximise space within the bathroom and make the most of storage! This can be done with things like putting your shaver sockets behind a mirror- it keeps everything out of the way.
Another tip will be to pay attention to what’s available to make the bathroom a nicer environment. There are some great systems from brands like Gibereit that will extract any odours from your bathroom. These are ideal for ensuites or bathrooms close to a living space!
Again, have a look at the different gadgets available, a great tap can be so handy for spraying around your sink and make life easier.
A second tip and especially important for the kitchen is to buy the best appliances you can afford. This way you should get a better quality appliance and won’t need to replace it in a short period of time.
Think about how you will use your kitchen and how much time you have to maintain it as well as clean it. We have concrete worktops now but we used to have wood and it was very high maintenance to seal it and keep it looking nice.
We relied on Pinterest when deciding how to bring our style out. We already knew we wanted the front of the house to be traditional and then have a more contemporary style at the back. In terms of design, we’re always discovering and the best way to add character is to start with a blank canvas and add personal touches over time. You can still add fun with furnishings while keeping traditional features.
